Programme 1: Books, Words, Letters
Experimental films and videos connected with the world of printed matter. From palindromic video to filmed books via structural films, this varied selection curated by William English presents a multiplicity of avant-garde postures covering the last 40 years.

Programme 2: Experimental Writing & Film
Films by experimental writers BS Johnson (You're Human Like the Rest of Them, from 1967), Samuel Beckett (who wrote Film, from 1964) and Beckett theorist Peter Gidal. The Beckett film in particular is not to be missed: it has an extraordinary soundtrack, and stars Buster Keaton.

Programme 3: Lettriste Film
Rare screening of the experimental film by Isidore Isou, pioneer of Lettrisme, which paved the way for the Situationists. Rejecting film conventions by 'chiselling' away at them, Isou introduced several new concepts, including discrepancy cinema where the soundtrack has nothing to do with the visual track. Traité de Bave et d'Éternité (Venom & Eternity) was described by Stan Brakhage as the "portal through which every film artist is going to have to pass."

Programme 4: Dieter Roth
A documentary on the magnificently multi-disciplinary artist, including interviews with many of the people he collaborated with.
