Exhibition of Paintings by Natalia Goncharova 1900-1913 (published 1913)

Cover of Extremely rare landmark early exhibition catalogue showcasing Natalia Goncharova's prints

Extremely rare landmark early exhibition catalogue showcasing Natalia Goncharova’s prints, published in Moscow by Art Salon, 1913 – her first major exhibition. One institutional holding of the slim booklet cites thirteen plates but an extra fourteenth plate appears in this copy, printed on different paper stock, but bound in as published. Goncharova established the Rayonism movement with Mikhail Larionov, and her work – in the distinct manner of Russian Futurism – drew upon past traditions including religious icon painting, primitivism and folk art to create new dynamic avant-garde formulations. Much of her work adapting icon art was deemed controversial at the time and some artworks were withheld by authorities. Goncharova moved to Paris in 1921 and lived there until her death in 1962.
